May Themed Environment

The day-long enchanted May themed environment was presented through a specially turfed urban courtyard with flowers and a Maypole. For the duration of the event, alongside music and sporadic maypole dancing, there was a free Spring feast with locally produced ale.

Catherine Hunter presented her ongoing work, Bread & Cakes that involves an unaltered van that was once used to deliver bread and cakes to small villages in Derbyshire. Hunter’s practice is concerned with the relationships between people and their localities. The van acts as an emblematic form, speaking of the demise of local services and industries in the area. Catherine provided free bread and cakes from the van (situated within the courtyard) during the day.
